1. Draw Up A Go-To-Market Strategy
We all get excited about the next big idea. Especially if it is our brain that the idea originated from. Because we know that it's a solution for someone's problem we immediately move to find folks to help. There's only one problem. We haven't put a lot of thought into all of the problems we can solve with that one solution, who we can solve it for, and who we want to solve it for. You want to start by fully understanding the problem you want to solve and create your value proposition for the audience for whom you want to be a solution. This is the start of developing your go-to-market strategy. This is the part where you decide how to reach your target market and get them interested in what you have to offer.
A great go-to-market strategy should include market intelligence, market segmentation, and product positioning. But, what does all of that mean???
Market intelligence means researching the market and competitors to understand customer needs, behavior, and preferences. Customers are people who need, want, and have the money to pay for your solution. Competitors are those who offer the same or similar products/services as your company to the same or similar market segment. You can use surveys, focus groups, interviews, and analytics tools to conduct this research. This data should help you develop your segmentation strategy.
Market segmentation is about understanding who your target customers or perfect customers are and which of their needs can be met by your product or service. Taking into consideration factors such as age, gender, lifestyle, location, and income level is absolutely necessary when deciding who to serve. If you're working to serve everyone you will find that you have little opportunity to serve anyone.
Product positioning is about crafting a message that will resonate with your target audience. It should highlight the unique benefits of your product or service and what makes it different from what your competitors offer. It's also important to consider the emotional impact of the message – it should evoke feelings that will make people want to buy your product or service. People want to first have a strong feeling that you will solve their issue.
By having a clear go-to-market strategy in place, you will have a better chance of getting noticed by potential customers and converting them into paying customers. So take some time to plan it out properly and create something that truly stands out from the crowd.
